Egypt launches health campaign against smoking

As part of the government’s health program, “100 Million Healthy Lives” Initiative, which comes under President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s auspices,set up 30 clinics nationwide to help Egyptians quit smoking.

Medical checks are being offered for freenationwide, besides disseminating awareness of the significance of quitting smoking, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

A total of 30 clinics will be allocated in psychiatric and respiratory hospitalsall over Egypt.

Egypt’s “100 Million Healthy Lives”launched in October 2018,screened45 million citizensforhepatitis C and ended April 2019. The Health Ministry vowed to completely eliminate the disease from Egypt in 2022.

In a meeting held on May 27, President Sisi ordered intensifying efforts aimed to transfer Egypt’s health and medical expertise to other African countries to cure1 million Africans.

WHO representative in Egypt John Jabbour announced WHO’s support to Egypt’s efforts to eliminate Hepatitis C inAfrica via holding inter-regional consultations and via cooperatingwiththe WHO offices across the continent.
